This photo is the epitome of a custom to me. I always liked the few pickups that were real “top of the line “ customs of the era. These few that were done are in comparison to the Hirohata Mercs..etc. Thinking of the above photo try to compared any of the great 8 at Detroit and consider this truck is being painted probably outside in a back yard and the body was never off the frame which I guessing is all stock mid 50’s. We hold these early customs in reverence as what we loved and when they are redone, if possible, they are no where near what they were as constructed. Looks yes…not so much what holds them up. Just something to think about….what the industry has become as the top builders of today look at an opening deposit of possibility 7 figures. Go figure.
