That was my thought also! Only thing I can imagine is that blower was from an engine (unknown to me) that could only be driven from what ever that gearbox looking device, so they just mounted it so crank could drive it from it’s original input shaft.
@HEMIDAV Hello, In the local Drag News weekly papers, even after we were finished with our active drag racing days, those visits to our local hot rod shops, speed shops and friends at Reath Automotive were still a part of our weekly activities. Those articles were now starting to sound like drag racing was all FEDs, modified stock car racing and now altered stock cars to appease the direction drag racing was headed. We used to drop in and say hello, to those that helped us along the way. Especially, the new Reath Automotive shop that tripled its original small plot of the corner of 10th and Cherry Avenue to a huge corner lot closer to Bixby Knolls and the Long Beach Airport. The ever present Drag News was prominently displayed at every shop in our area. Since we were involved in stock car racing for several years weekly, we grew to know some of the competitors. As the years rolled on, some were super successful at other local dragstrips and now had some partial sponsorships. Jnaki But the sad thing was, the little guy was being phased out for those factory or dealer sponsorships to help advertise the shop, dealer sales or factory models. It was just not the local high school or 20 something involved in their hot rod days. YRMV
