They were introduced until 1967 when disc brakes were offered on many GM Chevrolet cars which needed a different way to cool. Other models also added styled wheels with openings. Many of us bought slotted aluminum wheel which did the same. GM engineers probably never the ones in the photos but saw most European cars use wire or open styles with every brake style.
Well the mileage number was probably close about 32. The only difference would be the alphabetical suffix. I’m guessing #1 would have been ~ 32 mpg (miles per gallon) I know from experience #2 was ~ 32 gpm (gallons per mile) Doesn’t that make them similar? But for sure #1 would have lasted longer (from experience also).
