Balboa @Sky Six Hello, When we were little kids, our dad took us to the shoreline along the Newport Beach coast. His surf fishing adventures were a big part of us being on the sand playing and fishing to boot. During our teenage years, Balboa Island and the Peninsula was a fun place. It was a small area with cute shops and diner/restaurants. Then the drive over to the Balboa Ferry and the Peninsula was headed to another area to explore and enjoy. As young teens, we were fortunate to have a school dance at the waterfront Pavillion with a view of the whole Newport Bay. It was a nice way to be introduced to the area we would use later on in our adventures. Across the highway on the ocean front side, we found out later that it was home to the late night dancing to our favorite rock music concerts at the Rendezvous Ballroom. All within walking distance of each other. A mini Pike amusement area was also a gathering spot for teenagers from all over So Cal. Jnaki As we got older and the island attractions were a different story for the next generation of our family. Our son as a toddler and the many years later, our granddaughter. My wife and I, along with our granddaughter spent many hours walking down the quaint streets of the island community, hours on the beach, ice cream cones + snacks at the nearby shops, and the strolls down the shoreline to one of the nicest beaches in all of So Cal. Except for the dangerous drop-off depth and side current on big swell days. Bill Drysdale ... scene from the So Cal's Balboa Peninsula... The Pavilion.
