@HJmaniac Hello, Ever wonder why your hot rod/cruiser may have been the only one in the area for years and plenty of road trip miles? A social phenomenon of association with the working class could have been the answer. I knew about our local plumbers, tv repair man and delivery guys, but the local laundry did have a service for our neighborhood finished dry cleaning goods. It was a service that a lot of working folks needed to get their suits and dresses cleaned for the week’s work. So, during the whole time I owned the Salmon Pink 1940 Ford Flathead Sedan Delivery, not one version was seen from Hollywood/Santa Barbara area North to San Diego/Baja Mexico South as a hot rod. Jnaki The odd thing was, even our local surf spots and traveling surfing locations did not have any sightings of a sedan delivery as a surf vehicle. Sedans, station wagons and trucks were the mode of the day. So, the stigma of owning something a “working guy” would drive daily was not in the cards for a young teenager or older person. Even if their dad was the delivery guy, no one wanted to be like their dad’s daily driver. Perhaps, that is why we always got a "wave" or "v" for victory or even a thumbs up. But, then again, it was probably a surprise that some teen was driving around in a "work truck/van." Ha! Or that dads gave me the "stink-eye" if and when I arrived at their doorstep to take their daughters to a regular movie and dinner or a local surf movie. Just because of a sedan delivery? So, the time of 1960 to 1965, it was a great running Flathead sedan delivery that gave me many miles/hours of on road fun and adventures. All driving a slow, functional form of transportation that happened to be one of a kind at the time. YRMV Note: The closest I got to an actual delivery was to take a couple of recently finished surfboards from the factory near our Westside of Long Beach home to a surf shop retail showroom. My friend just finished glassing and detailing a couple of boards and he was running late, so he asked me to deliver the two surfboards to a shop in Seal Beach. Two fins, two surfboards sticking out of the rear window of the 40 Ford Sedan Delivery was a sight on the highway, especially with just one surfer inside. But, a free lunch and gas money was good for a nice drive and delivery to the shop.
