From 1940: A long line of automobiles Oct. 1, 1940, on Court Avenue at the Motor Vehicle Inspection Station — "an aftermath of a traffic drive" the night before during which 270 traffic summonses were issued, according to reporting at the time. Testing officials expected it to be one of the busiest days the testing station had seen. Inspectors tested vehicles for front and rear lights, stop light if the vehicle had one, windshield wipers, clear vision, license plates, brake adjustments, brake pedal, hand brake, wheel alignment and steering.
