When I see pictures like this of the Dust Bowl/Great Depression years, I can't help but hope those people found their 'better life', and wonder what that was....

Thanks for the memories… Hello, As a young teen in a new surroundings, I borrowed my dad’s tiny 16mm color movie camera at the request of my brother. He wanted me to take some movies of him racing the new 1958 Impala at Lion’s Dragstrip. At first, my dad showed me the camera, the film loading and the simple point and shoot. It was not a through the lens, focus camera. It was a view finder of about a half inch across to get the subject centered and pull the trigger. When I went out to the backyard to practice sighting objects, everything looked dinky. But, as long as I centered the subject in that little dinky viewfinder, the results were small, but at least centered. No through the lens focusing for these early film cameras. The camera looked small and fit in one hand, if you crabbed it like a baseball glove with the fingers through the carry strap that had the viewfinder when it popped up. Jnaki It worked out as I practiced with my mom’s backyard garden and our backyard garage workspace area filming. My first two films leading to our all day adventure at Lion’s Dragstrip near our Westside of Long Beach house. “get out and take a film of me driving into the entrance…” So, the command was given… We were on Wardlow Road in Long Beach, for the first shot. But, as soon as my brother drove into the entrance, it was 223rd Street in Wilmington. YRMV Lion's Dragstrip entrance 1958 Impala going to the drags
