Jr: " hey mom I'm getting hungry, when do we eat?" mom: " hang on Jr I'm checking out the menu right now"
The college Fall Football season is all over the USA these days... including the Los Angeles Coliseum on a fall Saturday afternoon… Hello, Our dad surprised us one year by getting us some tickets to go to the Los Angeles Coliseum to watch a local college team play a football game. The Coliseum held almost 90k people with the peristyle end adjusted for closer seating. Once, the record seating was close to 134 thousand for a celebrity event. Not football. For college football events, close to 60-70 thousand folks packed into the seats all around. It was an intimacy seating with the east end seating moved closer to the goal line. Our Cub Scout group went to the Coliseum for an event and had to sit in the Peristyle end on the built in concrete seats. The event on the main field looked like a bunch of ants. Plus, it was extremely hot at that end of the Coliseum. In the photo above, the red arrow points out to the seats our dad got for us. (the girls in the photo are the local college homecoming princesses and queen… that was a big time event… for some) He was told they were in the best section of the whole Coliseum. If it is hot in temperature, the afternoon sun starts to set in the fall and creates the shady area. Those seats were extremely cooler and sometimes when the wind started, it became no longer t shirt weather, but an added jacket was necessary. At least, it was not sitting in the direct sun, being roasting all day… during the football game. Jnaki So, if you are looking ahead to the 2028 L.A. Olympics, for the opening/closing ceremonies and all track and field events, look at where the arrow point in the photo above. Those are the best seats in the hot afternoons and even during the night portions of the events, anything between the 20 yard lines of the college football field is a great seat, but, only on that South side, not anywhere else. Note: If you are in the peristyle (arched end…East end) you will be in the all day sun. The North side will also be in the all day sun. So, the West end portion of the Tunnel end will get sun, then as it moves, shade for the rest of the afternoon. The contestants and celebrities will come out of the tunnel end opening. Binoculars are necessary to see all participants close up. Previously, the running events usually started at the tunnel end of the stadium. But, for the overall view seating of the activities on the large field and being in a nice cool shaded area, a jacket usage is better than roasting in the sun...YRMV
