Actually, that looks like the helmet paint job that Bob Bondurant always used. Miles had a solid single color paint job on his helmet.
'51 Soviet concept car, the Gaz Torpedo. Not quite as successful as it's Comrade, Sputnik, a few years later.
Hello, In my files on sports cars that we used to follow from So Cal, those were exciting times. The same course or track in Riverside, CA was where we saw a wonderful drag race meet inviting all top racers from across the USA to compete. Check out HAMB… Riverside Raceway 1959 and various posts on the top racers. But the sporty cars were a big draw in So Cal. The top names we all knew were always driving the coolest cars. We were rooting for them to do well, so they could go across the Atlantic to race in Europe and as the term was… “kick some European racers down several notches…” or kick bxxx. The photo is part of the sports car history and it is noted for a big part of the racing scene. @indyrjc has it correct, the white scallop helmet is a part of identifying Bob Bondurant in most crazy photos with helmets looking similar. Not taking anything away from Ken Miles and Dave McDonald as they were also super drivers in the sporty car field. Type in Dave McDonald in a HAMB search and the information is there. Jnaki One of the coolest photos up close and personal during the sporty car races… Then further scrolling down the photo files comes up with these classic photos. Where is that racing school, when I need it now? The bad thing was my wife, later on saw a real, low slung, Cobra roadster driving down the street and instantly wanted one for her daily driver. Not a Factory 5 version, but a real blue and white Cobra. Wow, some wife and it would have been the nicest thing ever, to cruise along the So Cal coastal highways in the open Cobra Roadster, ear plugs included… YRMV
