Hello, This is Garnet Avenue. We were always driving down this avenue to get to the end at the oceanfront. There are several nice restaurants right at the end of the street at the waterfront sandy beach. After a nice sail, we would go here for a different breakfast, sitting outdoors looking at the ocean. At night, we would come back to the general area to eat at another different restaurant for an San Diego Harbor "after sail" dinner. We liked to go to the harbor restaurants, but for a change of scenery, a short drive to Pacific Beach gave us more options weekly. Today, the intersection has a Sprouts Market and a bank, plus it is still a crowded downtown street. But, as one continues to the end of the avenue, the destination is one of the only three ocean piers in the Westcoast that allows cars to drive over water. It is a private pier that has rental housing and is a nice place to spend a few days, sleeping/walking over the blue Pacific Ocean. It is a fun place to rent and stay, but not during large storm days. Since one is over the water, the waves roll into the shoreline underneath. When there are winter storms, it is a little harrowing to see the ocean versus structures. Jnaki Just don’t rent a cabin during those awful, but powerful stormy days. A long time ago, our dad took us there for a short vacation. He liked fishing on the sandy shoreline, but thought we would like to be above water for our weekend stay. Our mom hated it as we could hear the waves breaking and during the day, she could see the waves hitting the pilings. If one is coming from San Diego harbor area and going right through the Mission Bay area, it is a nice drive. But on the weekends, it is a crowded jam up with visitors from the Mission Bay area down to the oceanfront in Pacific Beach. YRMV Note: The pier has sustained damages from the huge storms of 2023 and the end portion is closed for repairs. You will have to call the cabin rentals to see if they are still open during construction. The above, old photo location is several blocks up Garnet Avenue near the arrow.
