    Hello,

It pays to be one of the top custom car builders. That twin lens reflex camera is no slouch. A twin lens Rolliflex camera is considered the top camera not a 35 mm single lens camera.

“The "Rolleiflex" name is most commonly used to refer to Rollei's premier line of medium format twin lens reflex (TLR) cameras.”

The thought of a tall boxy camera was first on the scene in 1929, but the basic design has stood the test of time. It is still a sought after twin lens reflex camera in today’s market.

For our photographic journeys, the 35mm camera(s) were the base. We had plenty of low light fast lenses to go with either camera for different scenarios. Outside sunlight did not need a fast lens and those outside scenes were replaced with fast lenses for indoor shooting. To allow the light to come in from non-sun environments. Candles, wall shades, interior lights in radios, stereo components and still get a clear shot using a sturdy support, like a chair or a tripod if it is handy.

But to place it on a fender of a hot rod or couch arm is plenty of support for those no light or low light photos. Sometimes, it was a ground support with the 35mm camera on a timer. Other times, the twin lens reflex had the advantage of top down focus view and actual ground level placement.

The twin lens reflex cameras like the Rolliflex had its followers as the cost of the top of the line was out of reach of most folks. In our heydays, we purchased a twin lens camera that had all of the extra features as thru the lens metering, interchangeable lenses, fast shooting pistol grip and an eye triangular prism instead of a down looking open top for shooting as different angles and fast motion. But, of course it took wonderful larger format film in color slides and b/w photos.

The main advantage to a larger film surface is size. In this case larger seemed better for overall coverage and clarity. But, all of the rules for 35mm film shooting applied and with the larger format, one had to take care of the camera, as the larger format allows more dust and objects appearing on the original film in developing.

It was not as simple as a digital format to open up a photo and in a few swipes, the dust motes were whisked away for a clear image.

Today, the standard for a Twin Lens Reflex is still Rolliflex as it is quality in name and function… YRMV
