  3. A 1914 on the left, with the cowl gas cap, and a 1913 on the right. Good photo!

Cut down '49-'53 Chev centers with 14'' rims welded deep set. Lots sold in this area mid-'60s.

Nice car, at CT drag strip. Bought car in 1963, first day they were in showrooms. Raced many times at CT.

Pumpernick's, Wolfie's, the Rascal House, Corky's all had great food and reasonable prices in the Miami Beach & N. Miami area. Sadly none of them remain today.

Those trucks being loaded were my dads this picture has hung in his garage for as long as I remember we lost dad last month 2 weeks shy of his 96th birthday he loved all things with motors and wheels

  23. The two front trucks a definitely Studebakers, but the back two trucks are RHD, and have different wheels than a Ford, and the hoods are wrong. In fact, the 3rd back looks more like a Ford, but I can't see well enough to be certain. Maybe someone else can recognize these? 1914 Studebaker Trucks Domino's Bakery-2 (2).jpg 1914 Studebaker Trucks Domino's Bakery-2.jpg

As I have posted before,I think that originally, all,if not most, were right hand drive. As wagon drivers were. I will leave it there for more intelligent minds to work out.

  26. Yes, you are right, but after the pre-T cars, in the US Fords were LHD. The only Ford RHD "truck" of the US, to my knowledge, was the Model E delivery of 1904-5, a rare bird indeed. And it was merely a car. Many Canadian built T models for export were right hand. But more than that it is the springs, wheels and hood that mark these as non-Fords, I believe.

    Hello,

What a fun memory for us. It was a thing every March-April to get things ready for our dad to make his annual journey to Lake Crowley in the So Cal’s Mammoth Mountain area for opening Trout Season Day.
    upload_2025-3-15_3-48-25.png Toms Place Lodging

Our dad used to be one of the first ones to enter the annual lake Crowley trout fishing contest on every opening season day. He always made sure his license was in current credit and had already made plans to stay for the opening trout season weekend for his trout fishing escapades. So, the Mercury Outboard motor got a tune up, the three custom poles he had spent time making were in excellent shape, and even taking apart and putting two spinning reels through their paces in our backyard Rumpus Room. (later converted to our hot rod garage)
upload_2025-3-15_3-49-43.png If he was going with several friends, a cabin was rented. If he was going with just one other friend, a motel room and his mercury motor was taken along. For the one weekend he took our whole family, a rented cabin was fun. For the time we went along, it was very cold, but very little complaints were heard from our mom, since she was warm in her new “down” coat and gloves.

As he was working on his “trout fishing” stuff, we were in the yard with our own fishing poles and casting lures, trying to hit targets across the lawn. I was better at landing the weighted lure on a specific target than my brother, but when our dad joined us for a “cast-off” contest, he won every time. Our mom was also into helping him get ready with clean down jackets and a couple sets of warm pants. He took his multiple thick long johns to endure those snowy-cold days and nights in trout territory.

One year, he took the whole family for a stay in a cabin. It was fun and very cold sitting still on a small rowboat with our Mercury Motor not always starting on the first pull. That year, we caught three large trout and we all had a nice trout dinner at night. No, we did not cook the freshly caught trout, but our dad took us to a local restaurant that served grilled trout.

After our experience on that cold weekend, all of us opted to stay home for the rest of the trout season weekends. Our dad was unstoppable as he planned the weekend for every April until he could not function well any more.

So, right about now, he would already have his reservation at Tom’s Place, have his Mercury Motor tuned and now would start his gathering of “stuff” for his long cold to freezing weather, just to fish for trout. Ha!

We never went with him again, but our young family spent many summer days on Lake Crowley and the Mammoth Lakes to fish for trout. Our young toddler son was a natural. He caught the most trout on all of our Summer camping days hunting for trout. It was a trip to honor our dad for his quality time he always spent with his family, except for during Trout Season opening weekend. YRMV

One year, he brought home a big surprise.

No, not a record producing Rainbow Trout for all of California. But, one large enough for a record on opening day at Lake Crowley. He brought home a large, frozen, Rainbow Trout and a giant trophy for the largest Trout caught on opening day. A true Trout fisherman’s dream prize. His giant trophy with a jumping Trout was taller than the largest drag racing trophies my brother and I won over the years. Done in by a fish… but it was a tasty grilled fish at that.
