As already mentioned, yes that’s Brian and Mike Love is at the rear of the Gran Prix. My wife and I saw The Beach Boys 40 or so years ago at the Holiday Star Plaza in Merrillville, IN. Aside from a great show one other memorable thing was Brian playing the piano and getting angry at a guitarist with the poor guy being the recipient of a large soda thrown into his face. He wiped his face and kept playing!

    Hello,

We all remember those old days of a green steel coleman two burner camping stove. Our experience went from those units that required separate gas containers that were self contained and connected to the burner pipes by pressure fit joints. Those were prone to eventually leak, causing mishaps in camp stove cooking applications. A tight fit was necessary to get the gas out of the small front tank and into the burners for cooking.

After the cooking was over, the disassembly of the whole until safely done to store it away in the trunk for transportation to the next camp site. Again safety protocols needed to be taken as gas tended to leak from the fittings.

But, being miles from home in the forest or lakeside or even in barren scrub brush Baja Mexico coastal cliffs, the smell of bacon and breakfast cooking was almost heaven. The accessory companies even made a funky steel dome to accommodate making toast on an empty burner.

The Salton Sea, when it was relatively safe to camp and enjoy the barren area… not so, today.

As the time and gobs of Coleman Green Stoves using gas cooking connections were handy, there were always the dark side to those units. (leaky green gas pump + unit in storage and usage) So, as time moved forward, the next level of campsite cooking was a gas cannister connection to almost the same connections and supplied gas to the burners for cooking. Pop out the used cannister and pop in a new unused cannister and it was instantly ready to cook with the full power of new gas, not liquid gas, but butane style gas.

Mammoth Mountain Lakes camping... our son as a toddler enjoyed the outdoor adventure.

That made transportation easy and simple. The small bottles of gas did not leak and could be stored wrapped up in towels, just about anywhere, except for warm to hot areas. Just click in a bottle and turn on the gas valve for instant flame cooking. Some units developed a click start spark unit, so matches were for the camp fires and not for starting the Coleman Stoves.

As the longer cooking times were sometimes necessary, the Coleman Company made larger bottles to hook up to the same click in fittings. So, some emergency small cannisters were still purchased for storage in the trunk. But, now, the majority of the cooking used the larger bottle of butane style gas.

    Note:

The nice thing about those two burner, camp stoves for us, was that they stored away in a nice flat rectangular metal box. The best thing was instead of a metal box loose in the back cave of the Ford Sedan Delivery, it was neatly stored under the floor of the rear access area. It was during our own surf camping adventures all along the California coast and into Baja, Mexico... YRMV

Brings back a memory when my Brother and I would ride our bikes to Hermans Hobby Shop and buy model cars with old silver dollars that our Dad sometimes gave us. Sadly, the silver dollars I was supposed to save are gone, but I do still have a 57 Chevy model from that Hobby shop in my collection that I gave the hot knife treatment to when I modified it into a figure 8 race car like the ones we would sometimes see on Saturday afternoon TV races.
