Arnie Beswick with his ‘56 Dodge D500, his first factory high performance car. The D500 had a 260 horse, four barrel 315 Dodge hemi.
Pictured is Roselyn "Hot Rod Rosie" Young in her ride in Crazy Jim's demolition derby in the mid '60's at the now defunct Hales Corners Speedway outside Milwaukee. It was a Labor Day, and occasionally Memorial Day and Mother's Day staple in the Milwaukee area. They'd have a rollover contest, a powderpuff heat, occasionally school busses and started running compact cars around '82 or '83. Rosie made a comeback, driving a Caddy in the mid '90's. She passed in 2012 at 90. I attended every derby at Hales from 1981 thru the track's closure in 2003, even winning the final Memorial Day event. A Menards now stands on the site of the track.
