VINTAGE SHOTS FROM DAYS GONE BY! (Part 2)

Discussion in 'The Antiquated' started by Ryan, Jun 17, 2019.

  1. Thanks Ramblin Dan ! Exactly like that !
One of the options available for the purchaser of a 1957 to 1959 Ford retractable hardtop was (I swear) a galvanized washtub missing the bottom ! It is about 30" x 30" and 12" high. Looks EXACTLY like the galvanized washtub you would buy at the hardware store except for No bottom and bolted in place in the trunk. Purpose was to confine your stuff so as to not interfere with the operation of the rams or get in the way of the top settling down.
The trunk was already lengthen to accommodate the roof, and that was with 12

  14. 1957, It was blue with a white roof. An odd blue with a lot of gray in it. I have seen two others like it over the years. Blue and white interior. Old snapshots buried away somewhere. I also had a black n white 57 retractable I bought to resell.
I just love the cars of the fifties. Good thing I am not a billionaire or I'd have hundreds of them. I'm also pretty crazy about 30s hot rods.

I only remember the gym teachers were all believed to be lesbians...Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I second that! I have almost quit going to drag races the last few years, the high dollar racers have taken over. I always liked the door slammers the best!!

When I was a junior in HS (1967)a guy come in the first day driving a really nice black and red 57 Retractable with all the goodies you could get in 57. He got it from his boss who had bought it new. In no time at all the skirts, continental kit, and wire wheel covers were gone. Next thing we knew he tore the auto transmission out and in went a three speed and cheap floor shift with a hole in the trans tunnel big enough to lose you gym bag. Some time after Christmas he blew up the 312 and junked the Ford! I know, looking back it was just a ten year old used car, but damn, what an idiot!

Back in 72, some friends of my parents had their 59 retractable up for sale for $600. Pure white car. It was time for me to be looking for a first car, but my Dad thought the $600 was too much for that old of a car. I ended up with a 53 Pontiac for $75.

  29. Looking back in the 60's our Junior High school girls gym teacher had the look . The policy was that everyone had to shower together and the gym teacher handed out the towels . It just seems so obvious the wrong of it all. Young teen girls subjected to that I believe was not right.

Your welcome. Here's another one I took a picture of in 1982 that was for sale. The asking price back then was 8,900 dollars but the retractable part wasn't working and had to be pushed in and out manually. 043.jpg
