Every time I see this photograph by Dorothea Lange, I think of my grandma. Came out of Oklahoma a few years before it was taken. She was 1/2 Cherokee and dad was born in '36 so she must have come out west in the early 30's. Was killed when I was 5 1/2 and there's not much history about her in dad's paperwork. Still have great memories of her, among them, teaching me the correct way to smoke...with my parents blessing. haha It's amazing how this pic tells the story. Others from the same day are good, but this one @Bleach posted speaks volumes. Heartbreaking shot.
