    Hello,

One year, my wife and I were visiting Portland and the crazies were out in record numbers. We were there visiting the Columbia River to possibly go sailing somewhere along the shores of the long river. At first, we scouted out the places we would like to see as if we were sailing. Downtown bridges area, heading toward the ocean, and then the amount of folks in town was amazing.

Portland is well known, but where did all these people come from and why? As we walked around our favorite places, Powell’s Book Store, the River Walk area, the Columbia River Shoreline in Washington across the river bank and more, we saw more people. A lot of them were gathered at the frequent “watering holes” everywhere. YRMV

It was the World Cup Soccer event going on and we did not know that. So, as we were heading for a few other places to go and then get out of the city on a road trip along the river shoreline inland, we decided to stop to get our fill of “essentials.” A cool place named “Voodoo Doughnuts” was mentioned to us and we had to go there.

But, the place was packed around 11 am and yes, it was hectic and dangerous to be a pedestrian in that general area of downtown. Who lines up at 11 am to get doughnuts? Yikes!
