Back in the late '50s when we were checking out of the A&P the cashier would always ask if you want paper bags or boxes but we all asked for paper bags because if fit better in our two-wheel carriage.
Then when we got home from the round trip walk of about five miles it was my job to fill our two heaters with kerosene which would last through the night. Each morning before walking another few miles to school I would refill both kerosene heaters.

Considering he also has a new '55 Cad in the garage, I suspect he can have whatever tires he prefers and it seems he had the good taste to opt for blackwalls.
