    from somewhere

There have been many claims as to who is the sailor, but the majority of people agree that his name is George Mendonca. They matched scars and tattoos via technical analysis in a photo lab.

Mendonça, on leave from the USS The Sullivans (DD-537), was watching a movie with his date, his future wife, Rita,[5] at Radio City Music Hall when the doors opened and people started screaming the war was over. George and Rita took part in the partying on the street, but when they couldn't get into the packed bars decided to walk down the street. It was then that George saw a nurse walk by and took her into his arms and kissed her, "I had quite a few drinks that day and I considered her one of the troops—she was a nurse."[5] In one of the four pictures that Eisenstaedt took, Mendonça claims that Rita is visible in the background behind the kissing couple.[5]
In 1987, George Mendonça filed a lawsuit against Time Inc. in Rhode Island state court, alleging that he was the sailor in the photograph and that both Time and Life had violated his right of publicity by using the photograph without his permission. After Time Inc. removed the case to federal court, Mendonça survived a motion to dismiss.[8] Subsequently, when Mendonça had to prove that he was, in fact, the sailor in the photograph, he dropped his lawsuit

Remember Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel, the book from elementary school? Here he is with Mary Anne in Oklahoma City. 1927. I love that dump truck, it is really beat up.

Oklahoma City Union Depot 1940. The Frisco and Rock Island Railroads shared this depot. There was a different depot for the Santa Fe. Last time I looked, this and the other depots still existed.

1948 in Oklahoma City. (Which, by the way, is referred to as "The City" by most central and western Oklahomans. Don't ask me why.)

This has nothing to do with this forum, but in hopes of finding justice, I'm going to post it. One of the darkest days in Oklahoma history was when 2 girls, 11-year-old Skyla Whitaker and 13-year-old Taylor Paschal-Placker, were murdered on a rural road near Weleetka in 2008. There has been no one apprehended for that crime. Somehow, the OSBI has determined what gun was used for the murders. They don't suspect the owner of the gun, but would like to talk to him or her as it might give a clue as to the guilty party. The serial number on the .40-caliber Glock 22 handgun is EKG463US. OSBI's phone number is 1-800-522-8017. It is my hope that someone will be able to help the authorities.
