The ironic part about the ALWEG company is that when they finished the complete monorail system around Disneyland in 1955, they went to the L.A. city board of directors & proposed a complete monorail system around the L.A. area for commuters.
At that time ALWEG said all we require is FIVE CENTS from each fare collected to close the deal.
Well, guess who was on that board?---GM,Ford,Chrysler,Standard Oil,Texaco,Shell, etc.
Those people saw an immediate threat to all their products not being consumed at the present day rate---SO, they all voted ALWEG's proposal down---VERY QUICKLY,----And now you know the rest of the (smog) story!!

Sometime in the '62 or '63 (when I was in high school) there was a trucking strike at Mahwah. They kept building cars and rented fields around northern NJ to store the new cars. A lot of "midnight auto parts" activity went on in those fields. I knew a guy who had a complete '63 Thunderbird interior - including the wrap around rear seat - in his '56 Ford Victoria.
