    Twin, that "Stuck-keys" pun was super-well-timed! :p Everybody's a comedian! :D

The 1953 Vega roadster prototype, aka the Vince Gardner special. This was Henry
Ford II's way of testing the market waters to gauge potential public acceptance for
a small, powerful Ford sports car. Aluminum-bodied & flathead-powered the Vega
dropped out of sight after design awards and public acceptance on the show circuit.
The one-of-a-kind Vega paved the way for the wildly popular two-seat Thunderbird
of '55 - '57. Fully restored, the roadster has resided in the Sam Pack Automotive
Museum, the only home the Vega roadster has known other than Dearborn. Sam out-
bid all comers at Barrett-Jackson in 2003.

If I recall correctly, that happened the next year after the winged cars, which would have been 1971.

The Superbird didn't make the deadline, and more were built to satisfy the requirement. You can see some differences in the two in the roofline. A Chrysler rep told me the slick Daytona roof (ala '65 or '66 Chevy) was much more expensive to tool up.

And Richard did take the 426 Hemi drag racing for a season, in a Barracuda named "43 Jr."

Absolutely correct. Thanks. This was way before the winged cars.
