THANKS, YellerSpirit, for this pic! I don't think we've DISCUSSED
the old "interubans" on this thread, though lots of pix have been
posted. Note the small gauge, and small undercarriages. Anybody
in HAMBland have some family knowledge about this fairly short-
    lived phenomenon???

Interurban knowledge? Like the fact that at one time you could ride from Maine to the Rocky Mountains without setting foot on a passenger train?

I'm a big fan of light rail.

    here's some info on interurban,,
    compliments of wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interurban
An interurban, also called a radial railway in parts of Canada, is a type of electric passenger railroad; in short a hybrid between tram (streetcar) and train. Interurbans enjoyed widespread popularity in the first three decades of the twentieth century in North America. Until the early 1920s, most roads were unpaved and could become nearly impassable during wet weather. Travel was by horseback or carriage, and cartage was by horse-drawn wagon. The interurban provided a new predictable, durable, and comfortable way to travel and, in some cases, a way to get farm products including fresh milk into town. Nowadays, services that were formerly called "interurban" are variously categorized as commuter rail or light rail, depending on operation, and may include urban streetcar lines. The Tram-train may be considered as a modernization of the interurban.

Dec 7, 1941.. a day that will live in infamy

On December 7, 1941, Japanese planes attacked the United States Naval Base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii Territory, killing more than 2,300 Americans. The U.S.S. Arizona was completely destroyed and the U.S.S. Oklahoma capsized. A total of twelve ships sank or were beached in the attack and nine additional vessels were damaged. More than 160 aircraft were destroyed and more than 150 others damaged.
