    And to finish off, a sad time for Australia as the F-111, known as the 'Pig' has been withdrawn from service. The bitcinest ride in the sky down under is now just a museum piece.......

    (Ok, so these are not old pics but I'll be damned if I can find any old ones of Aussy Pig's.)

    The 'Dump and burn, Aussy F-111s were the only ones to do this awesome spectacle!

    Australia's F-111 came on strength in 1973 and have given exceptional service since. I still remember when I was young living on the farm at Nagambie, very close to the Puckapunyal Army Base they were doing a lot of joint exercises. Seeing the pig at zero feet tear over the farm and the sonic boom, damn that was loud!!
    I almost joined the Airforce, luckily I got smart though;)..........

    i had a large scale plastic kit model of this Thundersomething and always felt like i had put the wings on wrong; they were wider at the tips than the root as well as thicker. the problem may have had to do with it's fuel too though ... there are a few more photos in Life, iirc.

  14. I was stationed in northern Michigan with the USAF in the early 70s, a small squadron (maybe 5 or 6?) of FB111s were there at the time. The airmen called them "Snoopy". Last one I saw was at the Air Force museum, I think it had just arrived, along with their SR71 Blackbird, probably in the early/mid 90s. Here's similar to how I remember the 111s looking:

    I am assuming that it had some sort of truck-like turntable into the trunk. So rain would be a greater pain that usual with all that water gushing into the open trunk...

    I wonder how much weight was put on the car since I don't see it sagging. Maybe most of the weight was at the back of the trailer.

    The business name is "Double LL Drilling" (said "Double El Drilling"), and the logo is two L's.

    This is a picture of the Buffalo, Lockport and Rochester Trolley Station in Gasport. This is looking west towards Lockport. Route 31 would later replace the trolley tracks along this section. Gasport Road/Main Street is just to the rear of the station. Notice the old bandstand to the right of the station.

    Here is another view looking west of the Batavia Preserving Co. This was taken from the high bridge in Middleport before it was a lift bridge. Some of the business's along the canal between Batavia Preserving Co. and the bridge were: an ice house, cooperage shop, blacksmith shop, wood working shop, 2 grocers, a stable with horses/mules in the basement and hay warehouse above, 2 saloons, a barber and a meat market. Also note the pile on the left hand side of the canal. That pile is sulfer for Niagara Sprayer.
