King said in an interview that this photograph was taken as he tried to explain to his daughter Yolanda why she could not go to Funtown, a whites-only amusement park in Atlanta. King claims to have been tongue-tied when speaking to her. “One of the most painful experiences I have ever faced was to see her tears when I told her Funtown was closed to colored children, for I realized the first dark cloud of inferiority had floated into her little mental sky.”

I remember when "Sonny" (Sammy) Bono used to sit behind my girlfriend (now my wife) in English class in 1949.:D:D

Around '63-64, my girlfriend and I used to go to a club in Hollywood called The Purple Onion. We saw The Righteous Brothers there and the real Coasters and a couple of other great acts. Always sitting at a table in the back were Sonny and Cher in matching white outfits and both with jet back hair. Sonny's was done in a Caesar-like style and they were going by Caesar and Cleo at the time. The regulars seemed to know them but we never saw them perform. I remember Sonny was always saying stuff to her like "you are so great, baby!" That was before they had any hits.

  16. It is a 37 not a 41, the plates are 1941, not the car. The 41 Packard had side grilles though.

  19. I think it's a White truck engine, built during the WWII era, possibly for military application. Not sure though, the image source didn't specify.

  20. Piggly Wiggly trucks, apparently picking up supplies, looks like mid 19teens. Does anyone know the city? Date? What brand of trucks are these?

    Hej 731132,
Thanks for posting loads of interested pictures from Sweden.
Sweden was a decade ahead of Finland (economically) in the 50's for obvious reasons.
The above caught my eye in particular.
I have never seen the Aero Minor II car in a scandinavian set up before.
Can you tell where & when the photo was taken?
Were those cars imported to Sweden or is this just a random one?

  24. Another angle - looks like the same car:
