Good post. I was born in Milwaukee which had a lot of German influence (why do you think we used to make all that beer) One of the major newspapers was printed in German up until the start of WWII. Many streets here with German names still like Teutonia Ave. Buildings like The Germania Building, home of the aforementioned German paper. A lot of our Milwaukee culture stems from the German influence. The Turners, sports clubs, Natatoriums (pools) Pabst Opera House which still is used for performances, Uihlien Hall (Schlitz family). Chicago papers used to question Milwaukee's patriotism in their papers. All because of that "house painter", life changed here.

  20. I grew up in the DC Metro area in the 70's and 80's. My father was a life-long resident of Montgomery county MD, and used to tell me how he'd ride his bike down to Glen Echo park in the summers.

We visited Glen Echo a few times over the years when I was growing up, but by that time, only the carosel remained.

Here are a few photos of Glen Echo in it's heyday:

No, it's a '38 as others have previously stated. '39's have a different grille with thick horizontal bars and a more squared off grille shape.

  29. Moe, I just have to say that the last 24 hours of posts have been outstanding and you have out done yourself. Amazing finds. Like the photo with the louvered hood, that's like a one in a million find when you take in that we are all rodders.

I guess you can say that with a lot of photos but this was a by chance photo as you said, "from a series of rural Kansas pics". I love the shot, Just may use it as my desktop for awhile.

Now, i have to get a new scanner one of these days and start digging into my pile of old photos again.

    Thanks.

Interesting, 56 to 62 plates on a 55. Would this be because the Five Five may have been sold in 56 instead of 55?
