Shortly after Pearl Harbor sneak attack, the USA did not know which Japanese people were true Americans & not spies for their Motherland (Japan), & not being able to speak the language, the gov't. decided to separate all Japanese & move them to quarters away from military installations & aircraft mfg. areas.
This pix shows them with all their gear & clothing heading for a new housing facility for the duration of the war.

Both parents worked at Northrop during & after WWII until retiring in 1958.

    ----------------
    The Rochester fuel injection in
both Canada and the U.S was
never available on the 348 "W"
    engine. '58 through '61 Chevs
    and Canadian-built Pontiacs were
    both available the 348 engine
as an option but fuel injection
    was a "small-block V8" item
only- and on passenger cars at
least, only available in '57, '58
    and '59.

    About Canadian Pontiacs too -
right up to about 1970, they all
    used modified Pontiac bodies with
    Chevrolet chassis and running
gear - so any mechanical or
    drive-train option - or combination
of options - that was available on
    the same-year U.S-built Chevrolets,
were also available as options on
    the Canadian-built Pontiacs too.
Just for example of what was around
and available back then - in 1964, I
had a friend whose mom drove a
    brand new '64 Pontiac Parisienne
    "Custom Sport" convertible with a
    300hp-327 & Powerglide. A few
years later - right after high school,
    circa early-1970's - I had another
friend who had a '66 Pontiac Acadian
    Canso "Custom Sport" - (ie - a
    Pontiac-trimmed & badged Chevy
II "Nova SS" facsimile) with the very
    rare, factory "L79" 350hp/327-4-spd
package. And there were at least
    some - albeit very few - '62, '63 and
    '64 Canadian Pontiacs fitted with
409 Chev engines - and then from
    mid-1965 onwards, with various 396's
and 427's. Back in the late-'70's,
    I scored a complete, factory-installed
    385hp/427 Pontiac "Astro-Jet" (nee
    427 Chevrolet "Turbo-Jet") engine
from a wrecked '69 Pontiac Laurention
that I ended up stuffing into a '67
Firebird - which by the way, was the
only model of Pontiac sold in Canada,
    pre-1970. that didn't use a Chevrolet
    engine and drivetrain!

'47 or '48 Chevy Fleetline; not sure if the '46 had that bowtie trunk emblem - can any Chevy experts confirm?

The original caption is a bit off; this is actually a PBY, not "PYB" and it's a PBY-2 (flying boat) model, not a -5A (amphibian) Here's an earlier photo of most likely the same plane with an earlier paint job:

I think I just saw this aircraft on the front of a 1930's Popular Science? magazine,
It was an artist rendition of this or something very similiar.
Both Popular Science and Popular Mechanics used artists to render front covers and some of the stuff those guys would paint was pretty far out considering almost everything was billed as "it'll be here in 5 years"...

Don't quote me, but, I think any FI engines that may have been installed in Canadian cars would have came from Flint as the US cars did. Those low production engines all came from one plant. That would account for Rochester Products having no record as they would have been shipped to Flint Mi.

And the plot thickens . :)

Pretty much all American citizens of Japanese ancestry on or near the west coast were interned, but only about 10% of those closest to the attack in Hawaii were interned. Go figure.

I remember that, Cale Yarborough vs Bobby Allison.

Those where the good old days, -before it became an acceptable practice for Dale Earnhardt to bump the leader into the wall during every last lap of every race he won.

Just caught a preview of this on the news last night, featuring some outstanding street photography of Vancouver, BC from the 50's. If you pause the video at about the 3 sec mark you'll see a photo featuring a hemi-powered roadster!

Here's the link to the gallery that's displaying the photos, which unfortunately doesn't seem to include the roadster shot, but still contains some great stuff!

If my Dad was still around I could ask him, sadly he passed in 07,
Yep, now that you mention it, I misspoke, it was in Hawthorne,
ya know sometimes words, dates, names and places get fuzzy over time..
    thanks for correcting.
I'll have to dig around for some pics of him, maybe I have some that shows some old northrup stuff, maybe he will be recognized by someone
