Bob, Cars weren't even invented yet when you were in high school!

  8. Going up the Pacific coast in June to scatter Cris's ashes. My brotherinlaw lives in Santa Maria. I'm going to take the photos from Paso, and Yakima, and some of the others to see if they are still there. We drive by the Madonna Inn all the time. Looking for some of these old haunts might be fun.

The MG TA in the background and what looks like a Volvo, with the split window, look pretty interesting. Anybody know the year of the Volvo?

I am guessing that the MG is a TC based upon the general vintage of this photo. BTW, I love the Buick!

Where on earth did you come up with this! My mother is from this area of Mississippi.
Yes, Nathan Forrest sure put a wooping on those Federals at the cross roads.

The building was originally built at 1301 W. Broad St. to be a Pierce Arrow dealership in 1909 I think. Not sure of the Ford Tractor or Ford trucks part. I know that the Ford Dealer was about two blocks east and was Universal Ford. Dominion Chevrolet was one block west. Both on the north side of Broad St. The first Virginia state inspection was performed there on the roof while it was Coleman Scales. Hence their station number was #1. When the business was sold in the sixties it became Capital Service Garage and they retained the station number. After the business was sold in eighties and became just Capital Garage. The building is now apartments.

Sorry, the building was built in 1919 not 1909. The name of the dealership was Forbes Motor Car Company. I have look but can not find the picture you were talking about showing the old elevator.

It would have been miserable on anything but totally overcast and/or rainy days, especially with A/C as it was at the time. All those bubble top customs from the '50's and '60's were great for indoor display and little else. I really feel for that chick in the bubbletop trike in Mad Max or whatever it was...imagine what that was like in the outback of Australia.
