That's Luigi Villoresi in the #28 Lancia. If this is the '55 Monaco GP, his teammate Alberto Ascari has most likely already taken his for a swim in the harbor. Villoresi eventually came 5th in the race...and Ascari would not survive the year.

Like the 507, too, but the blown 503 from "The Last Run" owns my heart...:D

  6. Any body able to post any pictures of the main drag through Caliente Nevada? I was through there in the early 50's and remember it looking like a movie set, what with the railroad on one side of the street and old store fronts and restaurants and such on the other.

The grin of the driver almost looks like Garlits.

Those old F1 cars were really beautiful, IMO. The new ones do nothing for me.

    Amen.
F1 (cars and drivers) have been on a downhill slide since the first wings (1968) and sponsorship money. The last generation of beautiful cars ended in '67 (when you still didn't need TV to tell you who the driver was...that could be discerned from the helmets, which weren't psychedelic art).

Take the downforce and billboards off of the cars and then we'll see who goes fast and who doesn't.

LIFE archive of Thomas Macavoy at the next Monaco (sent to shoot some wedding?) - starting at Modena with the the D50s being made ferraris and great sequence in the pits with Fangio between cars ...
Youtube for 3:45 of a Fangio film with bad music but sublime sounds
thanks for the 503 lead, btw ...

  18. That's about the era. We went through in 1953, only stopped for breakfast. Don't see our 52 Buick in the picture though.

    Thanks ! [IMG]

This has to be the best site on the net. I just love all the historic pictures, not just the cars. The hollywood stars is a bonus for me. Keep up the good work. Are members allowed to post pictures (or is that obvious?). If so, where are instructions, restrictions, or general rules posted?
