I'll take a shot at some of them. Back row from left: Basil Rathbone, Bela Lugosi, Karloff; Center row from left: Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy, Deanna Durbin, Jackie Cooper, Bing Crosby; Front Row from left: I don't know the kids sitting down, W.C. Fields

    There is a start.

I have no idea how a woman smoking was once considered sexy? It has to be the most repulsive socially accepted thing there is!

From my "What the hell were they
    thinking??!!
    " and "Just because
you can, doesn't mean you should!!!
    "
:)eek:) picture collections, :)D:D) I offer
up this photo of the completely nutso,
    WWI-experimental "Sizaire-Berwick"
    propeller-driven armoured car!!! If
it could have worked at all, I think
the better plan of action have might
have been to forget the machine-gun
on the front, and instead, use the
vehicle as a kind of giant, motorized
    'Vega-matic' food chopper by driving
it into and through the enemy lines
    backwards!!!:eek::eek::eek::D

The fellows sitting in the front row of the MGM picture are the Dead End Kids (loosley based on the Bowery Boys) minus Leo Gorcey and Huntz Hall. There were a series of movies in the late 30's - 40's about the adventures of this group of misfits in Brooklyn.

Some just comedy, some crime solving, some mystery. Basically the Scooby do kids w/o the dog.

It's too bad Americans can't be Knighted, Sir Carrol Shelby sounds good and is well deserved!

Foreigners can be knighted by the British Sovereign although it is termed an " award ". The award is given with the recipient standing, as in a medal ceremony, and they are not dubbed on both shoulders with a sword whilst kneeling.
Foreigners are not allowed to use the title " Sir " although Bob Geldof, an awarded knight is often refered to as " Sir Bob " in the UK press!

  26. I will "add some spice" to this. This guy who owns a 1929 Buick agrees with me...
