This looks like a Hupmobile from around 1910, not a Model 20 runabout but a touring with the body removed. Bob[IMG]

Think I still have some "C" tickets from that era!!!

  7. Yup! In '73 I bought a '65 Mustang convertible for $150 & drove it home - no brakes, top was shredded, worn out & smoking 289 but the 4speed shifted, the tires held air... Probably the most valuable items on that car at the time were the 2 joints that fell onto the floor from under the dashboard while I was driving it home - without plates...insurance, registration...

I used to live in northern Michigan and there was a cement/limestone quarry in the area. Older cars listed for sale from some of the employees at those places would list them as "Cement Plant Specials" because of the dust and cement particles that gathered on them, then hardened when it got wet making it nearly impossible to remove.

I remember a time when I would have done anything to have one of those...and couldn't have cared less how "un cool" some dimwit thought I was.

    :) :)

The Sal Mineo character with the Vespa in Rebel Without a Cause contributed to the "un-cool" image for the scooters for my generation.

And Toad in American Grafitti but that was made so late that it was just reaffirming the historic uncoolness.

Now, the boxy Cushman scooters and Mustang scooters....Those were COOL!

  18. I think I see myself. I walked the Mackinaw Bridge on Labor Day weekend years ago.....maybe it's the same day.

That wasn't the scooter, it was the Vespa AND Sal Mineo. If it had been James Dean on a Vespa it would have been WAY cool.

Just got some pictures this morning from the grandson of the dealership owner that originally sold the 57 Desoto Adventurer convertible I used to own. Hollywood Perkins of Wilmington Delaware. The building is still there but not in the best of shape.

Looking at the pictures of the Plymouth/DeSoto dealership above brings back memories of when I worked at an Alfa Romeo dealer in Manhattan Beach Cal back in the '60s. We used a product called 'black rubber mat dressing' to dress the black sidewall tires. The stuff was manufactured by the Justice Brothers of Los Angeles, I believe. Gave a nice dull shine to the tires back before the days of Armor All and all the other tire products we have today. Rubber floor covering and rubber mats are pretty much a thing of the past today.

  24. When I was a kid we used a similar product; Ru-Glide.
