Tri-Cresyl-Phosphate.

Tricresyl phosphate, a chemical compound, had been used for many years principally as a plasticizer for lacquers and vinyl plastics. It was found effective as an additive to automotive gasoline to reduce spark plug fouling and pre-ignition combustion. Shell was the pioneer in this expanded use of the compound. Since January 1952, it has sold its motor gasoline additives for aviation use in containers, the labels of which bear its claimed trademark "TCP" and also its distinctive color scheme.
In May, 1953, after an extensive national advertising campaign, Shell commenced the sale of the additive under the trade-name "TCP" as a featured component part of its "Shell Premium Gasoline" which is dispensed to the purchasing public from gasoline pumps, bearing the words "Shell Premium" and displaying Shell's distinctive color scheme. Public acceptance of the product was immediate and widespread. Shortly after Shell's introduction of the additive other gasoline refining companies also included tricresyl phosphate as an ingredient of their automotive gasoline, but none of these competing companies designated the additive as "TCP."
Shell by the summer of 1953, had registered "TCP" as its trademark for its gasoline additive in forty-six states and in the remaining two in December 1953 and January 1954.

I know the Jack you are talking about. The first one I remember in Dallas was in the strip shopping center parking lot at the S.E. corner of Ferguson Rd. and Gus Thomason in Casa View in 65. Also in that same area of C.V. was a Youngbloods's chicken and a burger place called The Griddle. In the N.W. corner was Fred's BBQ and Ashburns ice cream.

I Sure Do...

That was my Uncle Max Johnson!

He was driving the companies newest truck!

It was the morning of July 5th, 1954. He had just left the Ready Mix plant on the riverfront of Quincy, IL. Max said "it was the first load of the day"... "it was a full load, and I was heading to Liberty, IL."

He stopped for the light at 3rd and Broadway.... when the light turned green, he took of... when he got to the middle of the intersection... Max said "the God Damn World Went Out From Under Me!"

Max always laughed about it, and he said "I heard a big crash and the next thing I knew I was in big damn hole!" Max told us they had to lower a 12' ladder down so he could climb out... Max always said "the only thing that was hurt was his pride... and a pair of underwear".

The funny thing about the whole deal was Max had only been working for Ready Mix for about 6 months, after the street incident a few years later they moved Max into the office. Max worked for Ready Mix for over 40 years and ended up being the business manager, and running the place for many, many years before his retirement.

Max passed away last year at the age of 87... Max had a ruff and gruff exterior, but in reality was a big 'ol teddy bear.

He fought in 2 wars... WWII & Korea and received the purple heart.

Not a day goes by that I don't think of 'Ol Max and have a little chuckle... Max was truly one of a kind!

This is Main Street Anchorage Alaska.My maternal grandparents were in this quake either going to or coming from an army base farther north that was completely hidden under polar ice at the time it was a very secret base.
