This road looks much like it did then, water dripping off the rocks onto the cars going underneath the bluff on Arkansas Highway 59 south of Joplin and just north of the Arkansas border. It used to be a big regional tourist center, but has fallen on hard times lately. One of our neighbors talks about how she and her late husband went there for their honeymoon. The Elk River is a good floating river even now.

  3. it is a 1946 or '47 Pontiac wagon, from the rear there is no difference between these. like this one:

the '48 Poncho's were restyled, another face and lack of the wonderful speed ribs, i love these ribs running thru the fenders.. i think i remember that A.Adams car was a '46.

Back in '75, while on vacation in Paducah, KY, I convinced my dad to drive me around the west end of town so I could take pictures of all the interesting old cars I spotted. These were all shot on an old box Kodak on 620 B&W:

    Logical name for a restaurant.

The other sign was more specific - Good Food.

Here's a kicker: a daily driver stock '55 Nomad! It was white over red with 88,000 miles:

Nice little '34 Tudor street rod; IIRC it was maroon with black fenders. Unfortunately the neg was damaged on the rear angle shot:

This '41 Buick Special had been sitting alongside the road in the tiny hamlet of Draffenville, KY since 1967. I had big dreams of coming back next year and buying it as my first car and building it into a street rod like Bud Bryan's '37 Buick (the naivete of being 15 years old!)

This tattered '39 Chevy was across the river in Brookport, IL:

I also wanted to buy this '59 DeSoto Fireflite sedan found on a lot full of semi-derelict old cars, but when I came back in '76 some dimwit had run off the road and hit that Renault Dauphine, slamming it into the Fireflite's rear door and quarter. The old guy who owned the cars still wanted $350 for it and it didn't run so I passed. A DeSoto like this is still on top of my bucket list of cars to own someday.

So I ended up buying this solid, running (with a little rod knock), driving '50 Plymouth Deluxe for $200.00:

Yeah, I did enjoy the car safari - thanks.

Little did your dad (or you) know that years later these little snaps would be posted for the whole world to see.

    Wow, a Consul 315! A 'rust-o-matic'!:D

Cool style, especially the fast-backs (Capri)

But I've never seen a two-door model until that pic.
