The California Zephyr was actually shared by 3 railroads who operated it over different sections of the route. The Western Pacific handled it between Utah and California. The Rio Grande between Utah and Colorado. The C,B & Q which was the originator of the Zephyrs between Colorado and Chicago. The current California Zephyr is operated by Amtrack over basically the same route with the same schedule as the original.

I love the paint scheme on the old WP diesels, all the 40's thorugh 60's railroads had pretty cool paint schemes actually. Amtrack took all the soul out of passenger trains.

 

The original Saltaire Pavilion at the Great Salt Lake, SLC, UT. Destroyed by fire in 1925, eventually replaced by a more modern and completely unremarkable structure that is little (if ever) used today. Not even sure it's still standing.

Ah yes have fond memories of Stegmaier Products. Ringa ding ding do the Stegmaier thing. Beer from Wilkes Barre PA. They used to Sponser the weather forcaster in the early 70's on the WB TB station. Now the weather with Ann Wiedeman.....
