Whenever my wife and I go visit our son who works at the Grand Canyon, we stop here and get an Indian taco (which we share). It is definitely worth the stop. The "stuff" they have in there is excellent work and not overpriced.

If I ever had an idol in popular music, it was Andy Williams. He had the voice and range I wanted when I was in church and school choir. He was never linked to scandel, but when his ex-wife and mother to his 3 children was indicted for murder, I can remember pictures from the trial and he was right there beside her. She got off by claiming it was an accident (I wasn't there so I won't judge that), but Andy earned more of my respect by his loyalty. My wife and I went to Branson a few years ago to see his Christmas show and found that despite his advancing years, his voice was a wonderful as ever. Rest in peace, Andy.

Steam shovel being used in the widening of the Erie canal 1910-1912. They laid temporary train tracks in the canal to haul away the debris. From Gasport NY.

Check out Sabor IV on The Old Motor where we have a link and a Popular Science article which tells all about him.

  14. Nice shot, esp. for it was taken here in Hamburg, as the plate says BH for british occupied Hamburg and it shows street life in 1948, the only year, the plates had a 48 below the hyphen. have on of these, very nice, and even nicer to think about a beetle used as a taxi! surely a nice way to get home after a terrific Bill Haley concert!

  15. What more could one want?

  16. If not mistaken, I think Michigan-born Bill Haley was playing Western Swing music in the '48 timeframe. He had a few hits before rockin' round the clock.

Midland Valley/Kansas, Oklahoma and Gulf depot, Muskogee, Oklahoma, 1961.

Muskogee Roads Headquarters, Muskogee, OK. The Midland Valley- Kansas, Oklahoma and Gulf and the Oklahoma, Ada and Atoka were all part of the Muskogee Road conglomerate. They were absorbed into the Missouri Pacific in the 60's and most of the railroads are abandoned now.

Just wondering if anyone can help identify this car. My dad said it was a 1949 Hillman. The picture was taken circa '61. I've search the internet for years and not been able to find anything like this car. I remember that it had semiphores. Sorry pic isn't clearer. Can anyone help? Thanks!

  21. These were very common here in New Zealand, and it does look like a Hillman to me. Sometimes they went by the name of Hillman Minx and also called a Humber 10
I just did a Google Image search for ' Hillman' and got heaps of pictures, so I don't know where you have been looking all these years I think maybe the year '1949' may be wrong , probably earlier

I think that's Paulette Goddard, who was in Reap The Wild Wind 1942 with Ray Milland & John Wayne directed by Cecil B.

    Looks like a 1947 or 1948 Hillman.

They moved the headlights into the fenders in 1947. The 1946 model is below:

Thanks, Tucker Fan. Wow! I'm going to ask my sister if she might have another pic of it. The weird thing is that dad's Hillman was right-hand drive. Very cool to see another one!
