Sugar Ray shows off for a young fan. Below, how he paid the light bill at his club! (I feel that hit myself! Ouch!) Born Walker Smith, Jr., in Ailey, Georgia, Robinson was named the greatest fighter of the Twentieth Century by the Associated Press and the greatest boxer in history by ESPN.com.

Everybody who's read a bit about boxing history knows that Jake
LaMotta was good-and-mean. Maybe not always mean enough,
though. After "The Raging Bull" beat Sugar Ray Robinson once,
Robinson came back and thumpted LaMotta five times.

Tough way to make a living, but here are some sportsmen
who were good at it. Patterson was the first pro I was a
fan of when I was growing up. Later I learned how hard his
upbringing was. He credited boxing with focusing his life,
adding that without it, he figured he'd have been dead or
in prison. Tough game for tough men. Not war, BUT you
    can get killed, literally!

German military photographers shot everything that moved ... or didn't move. One wonders
what kind of history books might have been written if they'd won. And where would pitiful
shots like this have fit into the glorious story?

Looks like they might be setting up for a fast right hand sweeper. Check out the pudding pot half helmets and how close the trees are to the circuit.

"Arado 196 brings an English submarine up [to the surface]".

    According to Wikipedia:

The Ar 196 was a shipboard reconnaissance aircraft built by the German firm Arado starting in 1936.

    Nope. No Gurney-Weslake heads on
the 'Cuda. First off, the Trans-Am cars
    had to run regular production-type
    cylinder heads, Secondly, the exotic
    Gurney-Weslake heads were for
    small-block Ford engines....and
    mostly only used in open-wheel
    type racing classes.

I suppose than that the Trans Am category sort of conformed to FIA Group 2 rules.

And note that the money on Sidecar 1 isnt even wearing leathers. Looks like a pair of overalls. And yea, the pudding bowls were a little better than a leather Newt Rockney helmit. Surprises me to this day to see a lot of Harely guys wearing a plastic Tupperware lid as a helmit. Where I live are a group of young guys who embrace the old 60's cafe racer look. Full black leathers and the pudding bowls like what you see here. Whadda ya thinkin?

Yeah, I wore the pudding pots back in the '60s when I rode with my pals. We all rode massaged BSA's, Triumphs, and Nortons. We wore the black Beck racing leathers and had clip on's and spring loaded rear sets. Our heros were Percy Tait, John Surtees, and Mike Hailwood. But I switched to a full Bell helmet as soon as I could afford to. Then I carried the pudding pot for who ever had the nerve to ride the buddy seat.

BTW, the driver of the #1 rig looks like he's wearing some kind of raincoat or something. Yes, they were real men back then!

To this day, scariest ride I ever had was when a local TT steeplechase hotshoe was tuning his bike on a bridel path adjacent to our home. He gave me a ride. He sat on the tank, while I was perched atop the little seat. I was screaming like a little girl as we neared the dog leg at the end of the trail passing cars like they were standing still. He pitched the bike bike sideways, feet on the pegs-a true lesson of counter steering that stayed with me to this day.

WCD-the Gurney-Weslake heads were only for a small block Ford, plus the rules required stock block and heads with single 4 barrel carbs. The Barracuda and Challenger teams used 305 cube engines (destroked 340s) built by Keith Black.
