  1. I fully agree that she strikes the right chord, whether it's a "G" or any other kind.

We used to fly UH1s off the coast at Vung Tau shooting sharks before the beaches opened at the R&R Center

Whoa, these pics would be a paparazzi's wet-dream.
Imagine the headlines in the tabloid press! Something like; James, Marilyn and Elvis in sordid love-triangle!!!
These are a great historical record of three of pop-culture's icons.
Shame they all died well before their times were due.
    Thanks for posting these.

  8. Photoshoped?

  9. By accident, I found 5 different YouTube video clips of 1951 Rockwood, TN. Don't know who made them, don't know why they were made. The first two are about 10 minutes long, the others quite a bit shorter. Lots of cool cars and stores, gas stations, etc. You can get a pretty good idea of what the town was like during that time.

jimis'hemi, you are not incorrect re the Continental engine.

Towards the end of the second paragraph on this page it says that a Conti was used at one time.
    Mostly Lycoming though.

  15. Bright, direct sunlight and high contrast shadows on Elvis (check the shadows of his hair on his face) and yet Marilyn appears to be in diffused sunlight... photoshopped IMO... I worked with Photoshop for years.

Big THANKS there, Rod. I thought I'd read Continental someplace, quite some time ago. I feel better, but I still should have checked closer before posting. Wrong info posted has a way of self-perpetuating. So, folks, Gardner: Almost all Lycoming engines! A few Continental near the end of their run.

Likewise, photoshopped pix don't have a place on this thread, as they aren't vintage. As long as this thread has gone on, we'd have seen evidence of these three celebs associating. Elvis admired James Dean's acting, but as far as I know, they never met face to face. These three people just didn't run in the same circles, much less share casual moments like what's shown. As someone said a while back, "If it doesn't fit, you must omit."

INSTANT CLASSIC there, Gary! We have two greats in their prime -- plus a great story! :D
"TV Tommy" Ivo, top, drags with Normie "Woo-Woo" Grabowski at Santa Ana Drag Strip
in 1957. Ivo had earlier asked Norm if he could take measurements of the "Kookie Kar,"
bottom. When Norm said, in effect, "Guess!", Tommy took the matter undercover and
sneaked up on the Kookie Kar! By the time Norm arrived on the scene, Tommy had his
coveted key measurements and was, you might say, "off to the races." In the above run,
Norm's running a Caddy OHV, Ivo one of his cherished Buick Nailheads. What a life!
One of the many ways we want to remember Norm!

    Iconic shot!

What gets me is how nonchalant they both seem to be at the wheel .

    Obviously a parade lap :D.
