Those are definitely Corvette valve covers, with headers no less. Those look like cables dangling off the seat, heater controls or radio. It looks like they put the hood in the front seat. What make is/was the car?

YEP, 99% of the stuff on Tumbler came from here originally.

  26. My wife of 50 years and I were there. We hadn't met yet and didn't know each other. She was from Clear lake, where the surf was and still is. I was from Mason City, seven miles to the west in north Iowa.

We have put together a post on The Old Motor using photos above from the Detroit Free Press showing the past and the sad state of affairs at the Packard Plant today. The situation that whole complex is in, remains very serious and it now appears that the great majority of it may end up being razed. Take the time to stop by and see many more photos of the plant at its prosperous times and today, close to death after being taken off of life support.

You can also see the many incredible photos and a video that we have linked on the Detroit Free Press website that YOU NEED TO SEE.

  28. My favorite small town in all of the PNW! Hasn't changed very much from this photo. Just can't afford to live there.
My late wife's mom lived up the road in La Conner.

Wasnt the car the genius by-product of the AMT model car company? Thye offered the car in kit form. I beleive the movie car was a cousin of the drag race version dubbed as the Pirhana.

The Ventures were the most popular, pioneering and prolific pop combo of the early
Rock&Roll era. Though they scored several iconic single hits, their biggest achieve-
ment came on 33 -- they charted 38 albums between 1960 and 1970! While they never
really billed themselves as a "surf" band, they are credited with founding the sound,
which helped define rock from '60 to '64 when the British Invasion signaled new direc-
tions. Perhaps The Ventures' most dynamic legacy stemmed from their mix of guitar
virtuosity and successful experimentation, both in style and willingness to employ new
equipment. Literally scores of later guitar giants cite and honor The Ventures for inspir-
ing and shaping their own careers. They hold a special niche in Cleveland's Rock&Roll
Hall of Fame. Their monster singles on 45-rpm included "Walk, Don't Run," "Pipeline,"
    "Wipeout" and "Hawaii Five-O."

Here's a SUPER add to The Ventures piece! When the band originated in '58 practicing in the basement, they tried a drummer, who promptly left. So they turned to a drummer from the high school band, George Babbitt, Jr. But, after eight months, when The Ventures scored their first hit, "Walk, Don't Run," George, 17, was still too young to play clubs with his mates, so he yielded his sticks. Soon, after graduation, George joined the U.S. Air Force.

Sounds like a typical story ending, right? Well, in 1998, George -- now a four-star general! -- relived a piece of his long-ago past, visiting his old bandmates during a live performance. You may have to copy and paste the link to SEARCH, but it will take you to a cool video. You will not BELEIVE what took place!
