Dick Dale was a relative of one of the girls in my 8th grade Catholic school class. He played our Halloween dance at the school in the fall of '57. He didn't have the surf guitar sound yet and was playing the usual covers but we thought it was cool. We saw him at the Rt. 66 Rendezvous in San Bernardino a few years ago and IIRC his son was playing in his band. He will be appearing at the Viva Las Vegas car show in April 2013 which is a nice car show. We saw Jerry Lee Lewis there in 2011 and surprisingly at his age he sounded fantastic. My daughter was very impressed at how good he was.

This car has a huge 1,197 c.i. four-cylinder engine with a bore and stoke of 7.250" X 7.250" that you are sure to find it interesting. It even blows huge smoke rings when it is run!!

“The Greatest American Racing Car” – Locomobile Old 16 – Part I is now up on The Old Motor. It is one of several posts we are going Wide Open Throttle on to tell the story in photos of the Mona Lisa of American racing cars. Stop by The Old Motor for much more information and another eleven photos not to be missed.

Let me know if you find this interesting over here and I will post the other parts of the story when they come out.

It looks to me like that rig in front of the radiator might be a scales.

The pails and the snowy scene make me think of gathering sap for maple syrup.

I think the guy with the buckets on the bumpers is just too lazy to walk out back in the cold and feed the chickens. Gary

Are there any more images on this temporary race shop? I'd give my left one to see a little photo story on this team and their makeshift pit deal. Or of other cars at vintage races like this? Gary
