Note that the Studebaker-Packard Corp. was the sole distributor of Mercedes at this time. I believe this began in 1955 and ended around 1962.

A major STAR of "Lost in Space" was General Utility Non-theorizing
Environmental Control Robot, Model B9. His favorite line of dialogue
was, "DANGER, Will Robinson! DANGER, DANGER!

But B9 was rarely, if ever, heard to speak of his older brother, R2-B-Zero:confused:
(below). He was the slow black sheep of the B-Unit Family. B-Zero was
SOOOOO dumb ..... ["How dumb was he?!?":p] He couldn't handle a ONE-
WORD line, "Warning!" You see the unfortunate proof below. Couldn't
    even SPELL Warning!:D

I loved the '50s and early '60s. But to be honest, I believe those years were marked
by one cup reality, two cups illusion. Nowhere in the socio-economic picture was this
more obvious than in the media, IMO. Of course, the economy was pretty healthy,
as the West was helping rebuild countries destroyed in WWII. But after the long years
of the depression, people were tired of want, tired of doing without. They worked
hard for what they felt was a deserved, now attainable piece of the new pie of pros-
perity. IMO, the media fed into the general populace's vision of the American Dream
-- not necessarily as it always was but as people wanted it to be.:p

In some respects, striving to live a myth is harmless enough, but the mind set also
creates dissatisfaction when people recognize that the carrot pursued is, sometimes,
just an empty (or over-hyped) illusion. But, it's said that perception actually is reality
for many of us, and Americans -- for several decades, at least -- endorsed the dream,
as best their incomes and borrowing power would allow. "Keep up with the Joneses!";)
was the unofficial battle cry in the race for success and "happiness," whatever that
    might be.

But unrest was not confined to material things but also attitudes about social order, as
well. Many did not want simply to return to the places held in the pre-war societal
hierarchy.:( This spawned emotional angst and real activism. Workers wanted better
pay, minorities and women wanted respect, status and privileges. You got the memo
    about all that.

But serious aspects of social change aside for the moment, the chase for the American
dream during the 20 years or so after the war really could be ensconced in some pretty
funny trappings at times!:D Again, I come back to advertising and other communications
media. IMO, real life was, in most respects, nowhere near as idyllic as the Saturday
Evening Post covers of Norman Rockwell. It was more like "The Life of Riley" than
    "Father Knows Best"!
