  5. Thanks for posting that link! Yes, it is a previously unknown Spohn Custom. I do a Facebook page called Spohn Custom Enthusiasts and have linked to the video there. Thank you so much!

I own a Spohn Custom based on a 1940 Ford. It will be at the Petersen Museum in LA from late Feb of '13 into Feb of '14.

    The Ekranoplan-creepy GUSTAV GUN
It could shoot a 7 ton bullet and it weighted 1000 tons.

Have to agree with Doc RE outmoded by WWII. Frankly, even as used in WWI, they were more a "terror" weapon than an effective tactical one. (However, a sister rail gun of Big Bertha did hit a Paris cathedral, killing scores of people when the roof caved in.) As for WWII, I feel such rifled guns, by Krupp, were mainly for Hitler's ego; the expenditure of manpower and materiel -- just to get an occasional shot off -- doesn't strike me as worth it when you could send the Stutkas and probably do your target more damage.

I know most HAMBers will think I dreamed the following:rolleyes:, but this is the truth. My neighbor, for some seven years, was the daughter of the head of the German steel industry during WWII. She said they often entertained Krupp (of Krupp Arms) at their estate up on the Baltic Coast. She talked about it all so casually, I'm not sure I'd have believed it myself, except she showed family photos.;) Details she told (with no cues from me) made it all the more believable.

At the Nuremburg Trials, there was sentiment to hang Krupp for war crimes, but my neighbor's dad's testimony helped spare Krupp's life.

Like swamp coolers, desert water bags worked well in dry, hot conditions. East of the Mississippi, not so much. Now we have convenience stores every 10 miles!

Wonder what kind of wheels those are? Looks to be a 1930 based on the grill shell.

I believe those are rare 1931 AA 20" wire wheels. Also, the '31 AA's unlike the passenger cars do not have the painted insert on the upper portion of the grille shell. There is a painted insert on the bottom only. The wheels and this info would confirm that this is a '31 AA as stated.

  29. We had a wheel balancer like this in High School Auto Shop. Big thing was to see how "fast" we could get a VW going by spinning the left front wheel.

If I remember correctly it did a pretty good job of balancing wheels too... Don't think this guy is getting much speed tho, maybe he would have better luck if he PLUGGED IT IN.
