Hey, Lewis, check this fella out! Seems ideas of propriety were just different back in the pre-"dress down" days.

One has to wonder if this affable fella was the honcho or just an average working man,
eh? If you look closely, under his coveralls he's wearing a shirt and tie! It would
seem that he sees himself in the used auto parts business, as opposed to being a "junk
man." The building at left says "Parts" on the window. There's a wheelbarrow full of --
    - what? -- starters? Wheels and fenders aplenty!

State Street, Calumet City Illinois in the 1950s. Mobster controlled area that was like a little Las Vegas. My father had a D-X gas station about a block east of the Folies. I was about 12 or 13 and used to park cars behind the station for the "performers" and the club bosses. What an education.

It's said that on hot summer days you can still get the faint smell of molasses in the air where this happened. Everything soaked in it for months before it was cleaned up several different reports stated that during the warmer seasons the "Strong odor of Molasses " hung in the area for as much as 10 years after this happened.

The cliffs in the background of this museum shot is called "Court of the Patriarchs." The museum is still used as such.

Sorry, even though he does tend to hang on to cars much longer than most people that was almost 50 years ago. Wish he did though! How cool would that be?

The funeral director's son and I grew up together and are still good friend's. I e-mailed him the picture last night and and asked him if it looked familiar. Got this back.....

    Crap, double post.

  29. A lot of people wore those Navy pants in the late 60's, girls and boys, in SoCal anyway (damn hippies). We bought them at the Army Surplus Store (Military Surplus Store) for ¢heap . Had wide leg bell bottoms, very comfortable.

I must say they look better on her than the EVER did on me...
