    This 1971 International Scout 800a was modified by an outfit called Wollard as a aircraft service truck with a telescoping platform.

    Don, sounds good, we have a cyclone about 200 miles away and heading our way. Very windy and heavy rain (no smog ha ha )

    That's some cool history there. Mike Lyman ran The Flight Deck restaurant back when LAX was the Los Angeles Municipal Airport. Lyman had two other popular restaurants in Hollywood and downtown going back to the 1930's.

    The building pictured above was built in 1961.

    Actually, it was built and first opened as part of the major renovation of LAX in 1961. It rotated originally, but does not these days. Currently, it is known as the Encounter Restaurant.
    Before 1961, the LAX terminal consisted of white wood buildings with a deck you use to watch the planes. It was a "walk out to the planes and up the stairs onto the planes" type of thing in those days.

    btw, love to see pics from the 40's and 50's police cars!!

    I want to try one right away.
    Too bad I do not have a dog of my own - have to borrow the dog of my mother in law's...
