Don, you're right on the plane, but, yes, if the plane was too badly damanged and the pilot died, they did push both over the side, pilot in cockpit...I remember a picture of it, will see if I can find it, it was unusual, but it did happen...

The plane definitely missed the wire, it's hung up on the forecastle. There is a small "tilly" crane trying to retrieve it
