The restored 1937 Tom Mix Cord sold at Bonham's Auction at Quail Lodge in August of 2009 for $155,000, including buyers fees. It had been in the Sid Craig (husband of Jenny Craig, the weight loss company founder) Collection and was sold along with several other celebrity cars after Sid's death.

  8. This has got to be one of the funniest movies of all time. If you have not seen it, you need to. If you have not seen it in awhile ( like me ), it is time to see it again. Besides the plot and characters, I like seeing the backgrounds as to what it was like 50 years ago. Most of this movie was filmed outside. One of my favotire inside parts though is when the couple gets trapped in the basement of that hardware store.
I think Edie Adams is so pretty in this movie too.

Route 66 passes through Chicago – Where the Mother Road began

The exact location of this photo is not known but Joe Sonderman, whose collection it is from, believes this is the triangle formed by Ogden (Route 66) Cermak and Pulaski in Chicago. He noted that the 3 corners building is still there but looking pretty rough. If you know its exact location, please let us know.

What we spotted in the scene are a bank on the left and also some very interesting signage; the Chevrolet billboard with the catchy slogan, Brilliantly NEW for ’52! featuring a clock and the signs on the 3 Corner Liquor Store.

The photo is courtesy of Joe Sonderman who has a Route 66 photo collection that we have been posting in a series that you can find here.
