  1. Eddie, your repost level is near zero, but as dodger said, some other members do reposts again and again, i think, because they didn't watch the whole thread from the beginning. i noticed it too, and btw, this thread accelarated much last time, so that a lot of questions stayed unanswered..

don't want to start grumping, everything's fine. but like someone said before, some people post away lots of stuff, but don't read anything. has nothing to do with you, Eddie, love what you're shooting in. and i think you have also a giant memory for what has been posted and what not.

    Cheers, Carsten

I actual did the graphic designs for their labels for 20 years starting in the early 70's. Piggly Wiggly headquarters was in Jacksonville, Florida then and Piggly Wiggly was actually America's first self service supermarkets. They even had a Mr Piggly Wiggly mascot suit with a giant pig head that was worn at grand openings and special events.

I think the ones around today have nothing to do with the original chain, they are just using the name.

I made it to the end. Lots of history here. Thanks to all, especially Ryan and the moderators for working hard to keep this thread on track.

I was thinking the same about the large number of reposts lately but with 68,000 posts it becomes almost impossible to go back and find the original to point it out. I have a pretty good memory so some photos just stick in my mind. There are a few that get posted every couple months. I'm sure no one is doing it on purpose. Anyone new checking out the thread is unlikely to read all 68,000 posts. It's probably just something we have to accept.

I know this has been mentioned before but what might be helpful is if those posting multiple photos would post more than one photo at a time. There are still a few people that post really great stuff one at a time.

This is an awesome thread with lots of great material. Keep up the great work !

All I can remember is, to open the hood, you had to turn the top emblem sideways, then lift the hood, simalar to a '40 Ford, hinged at rear.

  11. I'm fascinated by the explosion of technology during the thirties and forties, the run up to, and including ww2. To think we went from barely flying to jets in a 15 year period is amazing. Take a look at this chart how HP grew!

Heck, Don, you told me something I didn't know.:) Most cars' hoods still hinged from the side or on the center plane. I couldn't find a good photo of a '36 President's WHEELS, but they were "artillery" style like those on this '36 Dictator. For '37 they went to regular steel wheels, according to AACA member Stude8.

Not that it matters here, but the President and Dictator coupes seemed to have some styling
influence from their cousin, the 1933 Pierce Arrow Sillver Arrow, as it debuted;) at the New
York Auto Show and the World's Fair. I think (and Richard expressed the same thought),
that the '36/7 Pesident/Dictator rear-window treatment is actually a lot closer to the '33 Piercethan the PRODUCTION Silver Arrows of '34 and later!

Leslie Saalburg. 1933 was the final year of association between Pierce and Studebaker,
which actually rendered the Pierce-designed bodywork for the fab show car. But the
huge pricetag meant thtat even the weaalthy shied away, and only 10 copies were built.
IMO, THIS beautiful car strongly influenced later Studes but Rolls-Royce and Bentley
styling, even into the early 1960s.

  15. I notice a number of reposts, but I've decided they don't bother me. I believe that the great quality and quantity of new material that is consistently brought into this thread far outweighs whatever small amount of reposting that is bound to occur. Right now, posters like swi66, Ester Eddie, DarthG8R and a few others must spend a huge amount of time finding and posting their great stuff. In the past, Moefuzz and many others that I can't recall have earned huge kudos for great posting. I don't care how many reposts I see, I'm not saying a word about it.

Right, Tennessee. And Moe and Rocky are missed, as well as Blue Moose, Six Dogs, G'ma and many others. Fortunately, energetic folks are jumping in frequently to put in hours a day to find stuff that (they hope) hasn't been posted before.

It was just 2-3 months ago that HAMB Mod MetalShapes waded in and said it was/is impossible for a disparate group like us to know all, so reposts are BOUND to happen. Posting one pic at a time? Likewise. Metalshapes said those matters are not a worry to HAMB management. (If you look back randomly, you'll notice that Ryan himself edits this thread, paring out irrelevant stuff, BTW.)

But Metalshapes did reiterate that the HAMB takes a dim view of discussing politics, religion or (worst of all) drama. He suggested everybody just "Go with the flow."

    Go with the flow.
    "Bears repeating.";)

Thanks to AACA Forums senior member Stude8, here's a 1918
Studebaker Custom Coupe with very racy styling for that period!
He/she added that though left-drive, this is, indeed, how the
coupe was depicted in a 1918 foreign sales brochure.

Agreed, every morning when I get my coffee the first thing I do is go to the end of this thread and work backwards to look at all the beautiful photos I've missed before I post anything myself. Who cars about a little repeat, some of them are quite nice MMMMMMM

Like Jimi says....Go with the Flow, Live and let live cause life is short.

Thanks to ALL you posters for your time and love of the past.
