I read somewhere that after the freedom of information act that all these GIs were marched out there believing that they were going to have bunkers for protection from the blast, When they got there of course there was no cover at all. the paper work obtained showed that this was planned not an error or screw up the government wanted "test subjects" to learn the long range affects of nuclear blasts on humans. The same thing was done on a town near a blast sight the "wind drift was planned out in advance so the aftermath of the blast would float across a small town outside the test site,This test also eneded up dusting the cast and crew of the John Wayne movie shoot The Conquer about Ghengis Kahn

I read an article way back in high school that these were "volunteers." There were several tests like this. Some wore sun glasses, others had their hand over their eyes, others turned away, etc. All planned and documented. It was written by one of the last survivors, most died of some form of cancer. The writer was one that held his hands over his eyes. He said when the blast went off he could see the bones in his hands, just like an X-ray.

I saw Jummy Cagney on the Johnny Carson show tell how this Marine used live ammo in several of his gangster movies,He explained how in one movie he was supposed to be in a shoot out with a rival mob boss and as he took cover behind a brick building this marine would fire off a burst and cut off some of the corner of the building, They had "signal man off screen but in view of both Jimmy that would give hand signals when it was "safe" to pop out and pop off a few BLANK rounds at the other hood! Jimmy said it "looked real because it was real and let me tell you we cut it pretty damn close"!

Cool. So now I'm thinking this could be an after the gig guitar lesson. Looks like somebody's hotel room. Anybody know what make and model axe Jimi is playing?

I remember complaining when the theater started charging me 35 cents in Logan. My brothers and I would each spend about a dollar for the whole night there.

A few years ago, a report based on medical histories was published stating that about 1/3 of the cast and crew on this movie shoot eventually died of various forms of Cancer. John Wayne was one of them.

That might be a Gretsch . looks like one that Mike Nesmith would play. You'll notice it's a right hand guitar, and Jimi's playing it left handed.
To me that looks like Peter Tork sitting on the floor.
Hendrix was The Monkee's warm-up band for a few concerts.
    What were they thinking?

Thanks for this link I did not know that Canada had troops at the test sites! It wasn't included in the Freedom of Information papers I got to read! Most people I tell this to still argue "Our government wouldn't do that!" I was expecting it here to be honest.

All pics from old Family photo albums. The little blonde girl seen in numerous pics is my mom, and my Grandpa is the man in the pics.
