And here's the sketch that created this car, drawn by a 20 year-old Alex Tremulis, who later went on to design the 1940 Chrysler Thunderbolt show car, American Bantam Hollywood and Riviera, the Tucker '48, Kaisers, a whole host of Ford show cars, and the Gyronaut, the World's Fastest Motorcycle from 1966-1970. The man could draw. He was paid $2.50 for this sketch and he never looked back. When he was first paid for his Duesenberg work, he said "Now, I am a car designer". This is the Duesenberg that just sold at Amelia Island for $4,510,000:

Hey, nothin' to be ashamed of there! I did the same thing. I wish more marriages could last over four decades.:) Think of it! 42 years, and she didn't kill me!!!

(Sure, she thought of it a few times!:p)

Amazing isn't it, Janice? When REAL history is made INTERESTING with pix and even first or SECOND-hand accounts, it's not boring at all. It's entertaining to LEARN and reconnect with past generations!!!

And, Maggie, you're having a field day.:D GREAT pix, gal!

  15. Bet the view from that angle has changed quite a bit :eek::eek:

  16. Well yeah, I kinda did too. I've been with my high school 'sweetheart' Vicky (in my avatar) since 1968. The other, more important love of my life for the last 39 years understands completely. At least she says she does :D

    What a Blast..
Spirit Lake filled with debris following the May 18, 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens. Deprived of its natural outlet by the eruption, with an earth and logdam, the surface of Spirit Lake has risen some 200 feet in elevation. Construction of tunnel alignments drain the lake to a constant level.

Yeah, DesertDan! Every time MAN thinks he's mastered the world, Mother Nature proves differently. When Mount Saint Hellens finally blew its top, I think it caught the news media flat footed!!! How in the hell do you put something like that in perspective?

Carroll Shelby was Sports Illustrated 's Driver of the Year"
in 1956 and 1957. A little later, he came to be known by
his credo: "Yesterday is history. Tomorrow's a mystery.
We live for today." I imagine that Bob Burman and Gaston
Chevrolet might have LIKED this guy! ;)

racer would die at 28 winning the AAA national championship in October.
    Photo thanks to Wikipedia.

Colorized pic of Bob Burman in 1911, probably at the wheel of a Cutting. Driving a Peugeot,
he was killed in April 1916 in Corona, CA, along with his mechanic and several bystanders.
According to Wikipedia, friends:) Barney Oldfield and Harry Miller joined forces to build a race
car that incorporated a roll cage inside a streamlined driver's compartment that completely
enclosed the driver. It was called the Golden Submarine. Burman was 31 years old. Photo
thanks to the FlickR community. In case it isn't supported here, there's the original photo in
    B&W, as well.
