Bernd Rosemeyer was more famous than some movie stars in those days. i red the book his wife wrote ten times, it's titled "Mein Mann, der Rennfahrer" (my husband, the race car driver), really a good read..

Her name was Elly Beinhorn, she was a famous female pilot and had a lot of thrilling flight adventures, here they are together:



it really was a heartwarming love story between them! sometimes when i use the Autobahn 5 i stop at the memorial rest place and try to imagine he's flyin' by with i think it was 432 kilometers per hour before he flew off! and that speed was reached on wire wheels with a wooden steering wheel! that makes nearly 270 mph!

btw, his Horch is still alive today and well restored, so look here and sorry for the O/T picture, what a beauty. He named her Manuela:

Much as Ford scooped the industry with the introduction of their flathead V-8 in 1932, so Oldsmobile did with their new “Rocket” V-8 in the autumn of 1948. It wasn’t their first engine so configured, which came along in 1916, but rather their first overhead valve V-8. It was the work of Gilbert Burrell, Olds’ chief engineer, ably assisted by Elliot “Pete” Estes. More photos and info is on The Old Motor.

Description

The Wadsworth-Longfellow House with the Maine Historical Society Research Library in the background, ca. 1920. Peleg Wadsworth, a Revolutionary War general, built the house in 1785-86. It was the childhood home of Wadsworth's grandson, poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

It stops along the way at various towns and cities, takes passengers on a four hour "moonlite" ride, has dance orchestra, elaborate ballroom and various kinds of entertainment and amusements. Here it is tied up at Lake Providence, Louisiana before its evening trip"
