I have seen that handle on a '51 Champion business coupe. Maybe it was just the lower line models? Just a guess.

  2. DocWatson, I am somewhat amazed at your knowledge of these wartime photos.

Thanks man, but too bad it's all useless knowledge!!:p
It is a time that has fascinated me for as long as I can remember. I was offered a job at the 'Shrine of Remembrance', a large War Memorial and Museum in Melbourne as a curator when I first left the Army. That would have been a dream job for me but unfortunately due to my injuries I could not be passed as fit enough to work there.:(

    Just for you Doc.

Article 123 was the third A-12 built and the first to crash. It was powered by Pratt & Whitney J75 engines and so never attained its design speed of Mach 3. It was lost on 24 May 1963.

Bright Angel Lodge at the Grand Canyon. I personally know the rooms manager there now. I was there when he was born. This picture is from the 30's.

This massive fireplace is still there. When we were there visiting our son last Christmas, my wife and I would sit on the hearth to warm up after being outside in the snow.

Ooooh yeah! The A-12/SR-71 is about the sexiest aircraft ever built!!
The one above(A-12s were single seat, the SR-71 was two seat.) was also the second one to fly, the pilot lost airspeed and entered a flat spin in a cloud bank when the pitot tube became blocked by ice. He successfully ejected while in the flat spin only inverted!

El Tovar Hotel in 1906. Not much changed till today.

This picture makes me laugh. When my wife and I worked there one summer (2010), we'd go back to our room, change into our "tourist gear," and sit in the rocking chairs here. Neither one of us worked at El Tovar itself, but it was a comfortable place to relax.

So it was seized by the US because of the Nazi/German occupation of France?
