And, as near as I can tell it's one of those one size fits all clamp-on bumper hitches.

Wilfred Owen was a First Word War poet, killed on the 4th November 1918 at Ors, just seven days before the end.
The poem you allude to was penned by Randall Jarell in 1945. Death of a Gunner in a Sperry Ball Turret.
Other poems in a similar vein also exist: One by Ted Russell, ( navigator ) written for a John Leigh, ( rear gunner ) in 1944 and another written by Staff Sergeant Rusco of the USAF during WW11.

Brave Men - as were all those who fought...and died... for worthy causes. We have much to thank them for.
